The Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce Installs Board Members & Honors the Hurricane Valley Business Community & Students

At their recently held Awards and Installation Banquet, the Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce installed 2021 Board of Directors and honored Hurricane Valley businesses, business people, and students who excelled in 2020. The banquet was held at the beautiful Sand Hollow Resort Clubhouse, located in Hurricane, Utah. Guest speaker Drew Durrant of Rattin’ D Playhouse inspired and entertained an audience of HVCC members and honorees.

Retiring after three years of dedicated service: Kim Mensch of American National Insurance, Sharon Shores of Sharon Shores, Certified Emotion & Body Code Practitioner and Life Coach, Chris Gifford, Director of DSU Hurricane & Kanab Education Centers. Welcomed to the Board were Rosie Sevier of Root for Kids, Donna MacBean of Neighborhood Connection, and Ashley Moser of the B.A.S.H. (The Beach at Sand Hollow). Continuing their service on the board: President Nic Lauritzen, Ike Turner, DeWynn Nelson, Bryce King, Damon Atkinson, Orion Parker, Kris Smedley, Andy Palmer, Paul Zolman, Suzanne Leonelli.

Honored as the 2020 Hurricane High School Student of the Year was Adriana Villarreal, the 2020 DSU Student of the Year was Jaycee Robinson, and the 2020 Educator of the Year was LaVerkin Elementary School Principal, Steven Leavenworth. Also honored was Kris Smedley, Manager of Davis Food & Drug, as the 2020 Businessperson of the Year with Chris Gifford of DSU Hurricane & Kanab Education Centers, as the recipient of the Community Service Award. Las Lupitas Mexican Restaurant was honored as the 2020 Small Business of Year with Davis Food & Drug as the 2020 Business of the Year. Award recipients were nominated and voted on by members of the Hurricane Valley Chamber.

With the onset of COVID-19, 2020 will be a year we’ll never forget, however, the Hurricane Valley business community and members of the Hurricane Valley Chamber are survivors. They have adapted and learned how to function under the most difficult of circumstances. With continued precautions and vaccines becoming available, the HVCC is confident that 2021 will be a year of new beginnings and opportunities.
