Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce Honors Community Award Recipients

The beautiful Sand Hollow Resort was the setting for the annual Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce Installation & Community Awards Banquet held on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, 2020.

DeWynn Nelson, HVCC 2018 and 2019 President and Mayor John Bramall presented community awards to 2019 Business of the Year, Buck’s Ace Hardware; 2019 Small Business of the Year, Lonny Boy’s BBQ; 2019 Business Person of the Year, Ashley Moser; 2019 Community Service Award, Bryce King; 2019 Educator of the Year, Michele Poast; 2019 Hurricane High School Student of the Year, Porter Dansie and DSU Hurricane Education Center 2019 Student of the Year, Kristen Poston.

Guest speaker for the event was Rand H. Packer, author, educator and lecturer. Mr. Packer’s book “A Lion and a Lamb” was the inspiration for the movie “The Fighting Preacher”. The audience was captivated by his remarks and clips of the film.

Also honored for their years of service were retiring HVCC Board Members, Connie Zdunich and April Chesley. Serving as President for 2020 is Nic Lauritzen, President Elect, Ike Turner, Past President, DeWynn Nelson, Treasurer, Sharon Shores and board members Damon Atkinson, Chris Gifford, Paul Zolman, Orion Parker, Kris Smedley, Kim Mensch, Bryce King, and new board members Andy Palmer and Suzanne Leonelli. All were installed and issued the Oath of Office by Mayor Bramall. Outgoing 2018 & 2019 HVCC President DeWynn Nelson presented the ceremonial gavel to 2020 President, Nic Lauritzen.
