  • The Hurricane City Police Department strives to be a community-oriented police department.  They feel that a well-informed, involved community is one of the greatest assets to law enforcement.  In addition to their website, the department has worked with the press to establish lines of communication that will expedite the release of accurate information to the public.

The Hurricane City Police Department is made up of 23 full-time officers consisting of the Police Chief, Administrative Services Division, Investigations Division and Patrol Division.  Additional assignments include School Resource Officers, Traffic Enforcement Officer and Washington County Drug Task Force Officer.  The officers patrol 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The patrolled area is roughly 50 square miles and includes residential, commercial, industrial, recreational, open space and farmland.

The Hurricane City Police Department encourages community involvement.  The officers continue to work with Community representatives and volunteers in developing and implementing a Community Emergency Response Plan, as well as working with City officials on a City Disaster Response Plan.  They also support CERT training and establish Neighborhood Watch groups.

The K9 Program has proven to be a great tool in the detection and apprehension of narcotics, helping to keep drugs out of the community.

The HCPD Bike patrol is a very effective law enforcement tool.  Members of the HCPD Bike Patrol are utilized during events such as Peach Days and the Washington County Fair and during parades.

The Hurricane Police Department organized a color guard program, consisting of five full-time members of the Hurricane City Police Department.  The color guard has presented the colors at Hurricane City Council meetings, American Legion, Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce, re-grand opening of the Hurricane Lin’s Market, and the grand opening of the Hurricane Walmart.  To schedule color guard presentation of the colors for any special event in Hurricane, please make your request to the Hurricane City Police Department at (435) 635-9663 Ext. 3
