Washington County Economic Development

Welcome & Overview

A highly productive, dependable work force with diverse skills and cultural backgrounds, is one reason why the business climate is great in Washington County.

The area features a mild, snow-free climate; fiber optic communications; interstate transportation; proactive, business-friendly government; and a state college, all in a recreational paradise offering some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

Washington County enjoys the first largest population in the state, which provides the area with the critical mass needed for great advances in economic development. Six "big box" outlets have recently strengthened the retail shopping options in the local market.

Lifestyle, low cost of living and doing business, infrastructure, work force and climate put all the elements in place for a resilient economic future for existing and new business in the St. George area. Washington County has enjoyed a very diverse, ever growing, and robust economy since the mid 1960's.

The Washington County Economic Development Council is an active participant in support of value-added businesses. The county continues to see increases in employment from manufacturers, call centers, distribution facilities and high-tech companies expanding or relocating to the area.

Hurricane City's Gateway Industrial Park, located at Interstate 15, exit 16, is fully developed and ready for your business. The park is filling with new distribution facilities and manufacturing plants.

The synergy of supportive local government, plus skilled design and construction teams, allow a company to go from concept to completion in the shortest possible time. New facilities are brought from the drawing board to production regularly in a manner of a few months.

The City of LaVerkin is aggressively seeking businesses to locate in our community. LaVerkin is located at the entry point to Zion National Park along State Route 9, with nearly 3 million visitors traveling through the city each year. LaVerkin has favorable zoning, business licensing, and real estate availability.  We invite you to look closely at the City of LaVerkin and the remarkable business opportunities available here.

Other signs of the times are the issuance of the first four-year degrees by Dixie State College, the Federal Aviation Administration approval of the St. George City replacement airport, and a new $100 million, 300,000 square-foot hospital to open in 2003. These changes bring new economic opportunities for the community. The County Economic Development Council, a partnership between the private and public sectors, is positioned to lead the charge for a stronger, more diversified local economy.
